The work of Beth Fray is extremely entertaining, ironic, absurdbut terrifying at the same time.
From Canada and based in Mexico City, works with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, video, Artificial Intelligence and sculpture.
Its various practices that seamlessly blend together result in scary and funny faces that stand out by combining human anatomy through Snapchat selfie filters.
In his works, Frey brings out the contradictions, be it gender, body, social networks, mental health or spirituality, integrating representations of herself into her cartoon-like color world.
Fray also employs machine learning algorithms and videos featuring bogus influencer aphorisms.
His characters, who usually seem caught in the middle of a gesture, are always restless, anxious and absurd, doing everything possible to exist.
And it is that, although his works seem quite disconcerting, they usually express the experience of living in a rather peculiar and innovative way.
With elastic or fragmented bodies, sometimes extraterrestrial and indefinite, Beth Fray marks a corporeal movement, creating confusion between the naive and the technical.
Thereby his bestial characters are not only alive, but pulsing with movement and surroundings, so that everything exists within a common ecosystem.
Frey has an MA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University and a BA in Fine Art from the University of Victoria.
His works have been part of various individual and collective exhibitions in Canada, Mexico and the United States, for which Frey currently divides his time between Montreal and Mexico City.
