La mother, according to the established paradigms, must be an example of generosity, but this in real life is not entirely true although little is said of the same.

Precisely for this reason, there are more and more films that address, from very different angles, how women who live in different realities and contexts deal with the maternity.

Fortunately, dozens of stories in the cinema have been responsible for demystifying this role in society, but it is not easy at all and that is precisely why today we wanted to look for those that in one way or another have an impact due to the crudeness with which they present the dilemmas of life.

It is always expected that love of a mother (albeit a mere character) is unconditional and for the same reason act selflessly, ready to give everything, always wise, reassuring and capable of resolving any situation, but when this does not happen everything changes and that is when a great story invites us to reflect, like the following five films that we will present below.

petite mom

Film that is tremendously heartbreaking since French filmmaker Céline Sciamma shows how an 8-year-old girl deals with the grief of her maternal grandmother.

This loss makes the little girl face, for the first time, orphanhood and loneliness because although she has her mother and father, her grandmother was the one who took care of her and her entire universe due to various circumstances that will be revealed later. little by little

This The film not only talks about the loss of the little girl, but also about the lack of capacity that some mothers have to be able to take care of their children both emotionally and physically.

Tully

A gem of a film about the life of a young mother with three children, one of them newborn, who finds it very difficult to take care of them.

One day his brother gives him a gift: he hires a babysitter (Tully) to help him at night, which allows her to take a breath from what she feels is consuming her: her role as a mother.

Waiting for August

Documentary by the Romanian Teodora Ana Mihai which is based entirely on the absent character of a mother who does not materialize physically in the 90 minutes of the story, but who is the undisputed protagonist.

A story that shows how a mother must remain separated from her children in order to feed them, which portrays what millions of women face daily due to very diverse circumstances.

We need to talk about Kevin

The film deals with the story of a troubled boy who does not distinguish between evil, kindness and cruelty. This filmic story adapted from Lionel Shriver's novel features Oscar winner Tilda Swinton as Eva Khatchadourian, a mother who lives a nightmare when she finds out that her teenage son Kevin committed a mass murder in his school and, in addition, exterminated his own father and sister.

At times, Khatchadourian berates himself so much that he begins to remember that she did not want to be a mother but due to pressure from her partner she gave in, which overwhelms her because he realizes how much he regrets having taken that option.

Begin the Beguine

Film that tells the story of a young single mother who decides to leave her abusive ex-husband and how she must reinvent herself while fighting corruption in the real estate system.

The protagonist seeks to build her house to provide a safe and happy home for her two young daughters, but in the process she discovers who she is, because dealing with surviving a toxic relationship completely forgot who she was.

This story shows how a woman can abandon herself to fulfill the roles that are expected of her, but how fascinating it can be to rediscover herself.
