Shigeko Kubota She was an artist of Japanese origin, one of the first women in video art and a pioneer in video sculpture and video installation.

The art of manipulating images and sounds is called video art. This trend was born in the United States in the 60s, when the first video recording equipment was manufactured at affordable prices and easy to use.

Artists like Gary Hill, Vico Acconci, Douglas Gordon, Bill Viola, Tony oursler, Value Export, John Jonas, Pipilotti Rist, Dan Graham, Marina Abramović, Wolf Vostell, Ira Schneider and Peter campus, among others, have created important pieces for video art.

Shigeko Kubota was born in Japan in 1937. In her country she trained as a pianist and sculptor but did not continue that line due to stage fright, although she did not totally abandon art. In the 60s he continued to attend and participate in artistic events.

In this period he moved to New York City because he considered that in his country he would never achieve recognition for his work.

In the Big Apple he met George maciunas and joins Fluxus, collective where it fits perfectly, in the beginning.

One of the best known pieces of the artist was vagina painting, a performance where she placed a brush on her underwear, dipped it in red ink (simulating the color of menstruation) and began to make strokes on a large white canvas on the floor.

A vagina painting it was considered one of the first feminist video-artistic works. Years later, the Colombian artist Maria Evelia Marmolejo, would coincide in the style of the Japanese author.

En Anthropometries, Kubota invited the French artist Yves Klein with whom he coincided in the Dada movement.

En Fluxus, the artist agreed with Nam june paik whom he would marry later. The closeness to the author of the "electric highway" overshadowed her career several times because the artistic circle claimed that she copied her husband's works.
