Bjarke English Group (BIG) presented the first image of the new headquarters of the distillery of whiskey Blue Run Spirits in Georgetown, Kentucky. The design, called Meander, intends to evoke the journey of the water rich in limestone from Georgetown's Royal Spring through the process of distilling, aging and blending into Blue Run bourbons and rye whiskeys.
The 35,000-square-foot distillery and factory bricksThe 20,000-square-foot building will break ground this year at Lanes Run Business Park and is expected to be operational by 2025.
Bjarke Ingels, founder and creative director of BIG, explained, through a statement, that in said project they summarized the whiskey-making process in a single linear sequence, from distillation to maturation and bottling.
The process line, which will be 800 meters long, will meander along the gentle slopes creating curves and banks, entrances and exits. A single roof of photovoltaic tiles will twist and turn to maintain optimal orientation, even if the activities below require grandeur or privacy.
Just as Royal Spring is shaped by the flow of water, BIG wanted Blue Run Distillery to be shaped by the flow of whiskey, the processes and the people who make it.
According to Mike Montgomery, CEO and co-founder of Blue Run Spirits, the new distillery will provide them with a game changer in their long-term business plans by allowing them to meet expected and unforeseen demand,
Design, the businessman stressed, is at the center of everything that is done at Blue Run, from the highly valued drink to the bottle.
