This year, the British Museum in London will present theThe largest manga exhibition ever held outside of Japan.

The exhibition is part of the 2019-2020 Japan-UK Culture Season.

From May 23 to August 26, the British Museum will host of a graphic world where art and storytelling merge.

A beautiful tribute from the Western world to the cultural legacy of the country of the rising sun.

What is manga?

Is a form of visual narrative art that has become a global multimedia phenomenon.

Tell stories with themes from drama to adventure, in real or imagined worlds.

The Japanese word "manga" is used to designate comics in general.

Outside Japan it is used to refer to both comics of Japanese origin and the drawing style of a certain place.

The Japanese manga constitutes one of the three great traditions of comics worldwide, along with the American and the Franco-Belgian.

And although he is originally from Japan, he has fans all over the world for the visually immersive quality.

Its roots date back to 1200 AD, and the Japanese characters for "manga" translate to "riot pictures" or "limitless pictures."

However, as we know it today, it was made from strips of serial cartoons in magazines and newspapers before the decade of 1920.

Manga Expo

Immersive and playful, the exhibition will explore the global appeal and Crossovers manga culture, showcasing the original Japanese manga and its influence around the world.

"Sleeve" was curated by Nicole Rousmaniere, the founding director of the Sainsbury Institute and Professor of Japanese Art and Culture at the University of East Anglia.

At the show, fans of the Japanese world will experience an idyllic atmosphere through exhibitions, workshops and film screenings.
