La French-Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh, will be in charge of designing the 22nd Serpentine Pavilion, which will host the summer program of the Serpentine Galleries in London.
The temporary construction will open from June 2023, it is titled At table, which will explore memory, space and landscape.
The project that began in 2000, under the proposal of the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, houses a new construction that hosts the summer program of the galleries, dated from June to October.
The Serpentine Pavilion program selects as a designer for the Serpentine Pavilion a professional who does not yet have any completed work in the UK at the time of the invitation.
So year after year, the Serpentine Pavilion attracts international attention as a place of international architectural experimentation.
The work Black Chapel, made by the American artist Theaster Gates and the Adjaye Associates studio, it is the most recent exhibition that took place in the summer of 2022.
Thus they give way to the architect Lina Ghotmeh, who for this project explores the connections between memory, space and landscape.
With several works worldwide, Ghotmeh, are framed in the line that defines the border between architecture, art and design.
His approach is based on an in-depth knowledge of the places, both from the historical and ecological point of view, without forgetting the knowledge of the materials and resources available, as well as the social conditions and the habits of the users.
Characterized by an elegant simplicity, Lina Ghotmeh leans towards a proposal in which they live in symbiosis with nature.
In this way, the new Serpentine Pavilion will dialogue with its surroundings and will be a tribute to the nature of the Kensington Gardens that surround it.
Built with organic and low-carbon materials, the pavilion will have a structure formed by wooden ribs that will support a pleated canopy inspired by the foliage of the trees.
The large table located in the center of the space will be an invitation to share and socialize, to reflect together and build a more sustainable relationship with the planet.
