A site that brings together nature and art: Cosmovitral Botanical Garden


La Toluca city It has one of the largest and most beautiful stained glass windows in the world: the Cosmovitral Botanical Garden.

From 1910 to 1975 it worked like the September 16 Market, but it became a much more ambitious project.

The engineer Manuel Arratia was in charge while Leopoldo Flores He was the artist who designed the content of the great piece.

Barnabas Fernandez, vitalist and approximately one hundred artisans intervened in the work to finalize the building.

 45 tons of blown glass, 25 of lead pipes and 75 of metal structure were required.

It took three years to build, consists of 48 stained glass and 28 different colors.

It covers about 3 thousand 200 square meters and is one of the most important identity symbols of the Mexico state.

Some other interesting facts

 

In style art nouveau, the Cosmovitral opened its doors to the public in 1980 and from that date it also houses around 400 plant species.

The green areas have copies of Mexico, but also from Chile, Brazil or China, among others.

The title of the work is Man's relationship with the universe in which the dualities take center stage, as well as the life cycles.

The ceiling is seen as a celestial vault in which constellations are observed.

This site also offers exhibitions, conferences and guided tours.

Finally the light, tones and vegetation provide a unique experience to the visitor.
