In 2007, Zaha Hadid Architects won the competition to develop the “Haydar Aliyev Center” in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, which will be the main building where will host cultural programs. The monumental structure has geometric shapes throughout the design which distinguishes it from other typical Soviet buildings in the region. Islamic architecture has compositions of rows, columns and sequences which is also reflected in the architectural details of the project. The main roof design is inspired by a flying carpet. What was sought renterpretar signature architectural history of the city and create a harmonious composition.
