If phones not only serve to make calls, why the seats only serve to sit? Based on this premise born Soofa, a bench equipped with solar panels that allows the inhabitants of Boston free battery charging their devices in various city parks.
Soofa is the result of collaboration between Jutta Friedrichs, Sandra Richter and Nan Zhao, who are part of Changing Enviroments, a company emerged from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The project began with 12 benches in addition to providing that service, offer real-time data on air quality or noise of where they are located.
The charging time is similar to that required by a conventional electrical outlet, and works effectively during the day and night. Its performance may vary only in winter. Although the project is available only in the US, is intended to grow and be marketed worldwide, allowing more cities to benefit from intelligent furniture.
