A superhero is a character that has special talents or supernatural powers, who is dedicated to saving and protecting people. Some do not possess such skills, however, have suits or high-tech devices that use the same purpose.
Every superhero has a secret identity, an earthly personality where he can take refuge from the pressures of his heroic duty. These power icons face a different reality outside the fantasy world in which they live: converted into plastic dolls, bagged and hung on exhibitors, stripped of what makes them special.
Simon Monk is a painter who lives and works in Essex, UK. The main theme of his production are objects stuffed into plastic bags, on different types of walls, on real scale, intended to be placed in real walls. Monk invites us to observe these characters hidden behind a double-masked: the bag containing the superhero, who in turn kept secret of his alter ego. Seeing these images makes us think about the masks we carry, and packaging that protect our personalities.
