SANTIGOLD: AFRICAN AMERICAN SAMPLING

At this point, Santi White, whose stage name is Santigold, is a world renowned artist. Mexico is no exception, as we had the opportunity to listen to her in the second edition (2011) of Corona Capital. Before becoming Santigold, American artist was lead singer of the band Stiffed. She soon signed with Lizard King Records to start a solo career. Her debut album Santogold (2008) led her to work with artists like MIA, Björk, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beaste Boys, among others. For the famous Rolling Stone magazine, hers was the sixth best production of the year. While singles as “Creator” and “Lights Out” have appeared in various commercials in the US and UK, “L.E.S Artistes” became the second best song of 2008, according to Rolling Stone. Her second album Master of my Make-Believe appeared in 2012, and its first single was “Disparate Youth”. Part of it was recorded in Jamaica. We like Santigold for her energy and movement, songs like “Creator” and “My Drive Thru”, in collaboration with Julian Casablancas and Pharrell William for Converse, which injected intensity; we also like her sampling combining African American music, rock, hip-hop, reggae and electronica. Therefore, we leave you with some videos for you to enjoy it.
