In 2014, the architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) was invited by the Swedish city Uppsala to design a power plant that would work during the winter. To be used only in this season, the facilities would be obsolete for the rest of the year, so BIG gave a new feature to this site.
The proposal is that this power plant works as a greenhouse, which is possible thanks to the materials with which would be built. The transparent dome allows sunlight to pass through growing the plants. The facilities would benefit from educational workshops during the summer. Being the surroundings green areas, they would be enjoyed by people for sunbathing and picnicking.
The architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), was founded in 2005 by Bjarke Ingels in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2010, he opened a branch in New York. The firm has won numerous architectural competitions and international awards.
