When we look at Lisa Hoke’s installations, we note hypnotic textures as if they had escaped from a kaleidoscope. But as we approach, wee realize they really are plastic cups, chocolate wrappers, plates, mugs, stickers, and many other items of waste. The way Hoke uses waste opens a dialogue about the amount of waste we produce and how we miss the beauty of these objects. Her color coordination, deliciously textured work gives these objects a second life and a chance for viewers to appreciate beyond its primary function. Hoke even allows them to participate by donating items for use in her work.
