Kari Mayo is the stage name of Karina de la Torre, Mexican artist born and based in Mexico City. Visually based on patterns of geometric figures that together evoke designs of traditional Mexican textiles, Kari Mayo’s work has highlighted as one of the top of young artists in the capital scene, and also has been internationally released with a solo exhibition in Berlin. One of his most celebrated series was From Here to Mayo, a project emerged following the death of his brother, Mayo (for which she adopted this stage name), which is composed of a series of funerary masks representing animal spirits that make up the Hispanic tradition or have a funeral connotation: jaguar/eagle, owl, rabbit, cow and deer.
