The light sculpture Aten Reign was installed last year by its creator the American artist James Turrell. It is a giant cone that projects light leveraging attributes of unique architectural space designed by Frank Gehry for which it was designed. Christopher George, head of manufacturing at the Guggenheim, was in charge of the installation of the piece, a complicated project that required technological tools created for this piece. Weight-bearing tests, assembly by sections, functional connections for lighting control and limited installation time, were some of the challenges faced by the production team. The result is an atmospheric experience of harmonious color variation on the site, in the style of James Turrell.
