The Sicilian artist Giuseppe Licari created Humus, an installation created in 2012 for the exhibition Secret Gardens of the Tent Gallery Rotterdam. The piece consists of tree roots hanging from the ceiling, making them look as if they grew on the surface. Humus interrogates the relationship between nature and the built environment. Lighting is a very important factor in this installation, because the shadows and reflectors create a mysterious atmosphere. This work is a representation of the relationship between human being, environment and our collective memory, but in a poetic way.
