The story of James Brown is known, or at least easy to find, but the trick is knowing the details, feelings and anecdotes about the life of the father of funk. Tate Taylor directs this film that provides a retrospective look with high doses of drama on the career of this character.
The director of The Help gathers Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer to accompany Chadwick Boseman in a performance that earned him several nominations. Boseman trained for several months to achieve the role of Brown, especially in the part of the dance element that if has not been reached, would get rid the atmosphere of the film.
Far from being a columbarium or inspirational movie, Get On Up is a real story without heroes or villains: it is life itself and the places where the roads lead us, after our decisions.
