Directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth), the talented actress Scarlett Johansson brings a great and unique performance in this film which is shaping up to become a cult film. Under the Skin tells the story of an enigmatic woman who seduces lonely men on the roads in Scotland, taking them to a strange place, where they are trapped in a substance that keeps them paused to finally be absorbed, only remaining their skin. She really is an alien who serves as bait to catch men on Earth and send them to her planet where human flesh is a gourmet product. But the narrative takes a turn when she begins to be interested in human rather than as food. However, the transition of the woman, reverses the roles, and instead of hunting, become hunted. Under the skin is a film set a relaxed pace in the first half, but from the second part, the narrative tempo responds to psychic evolution of the character; a film with little dialogue and sustained by Johansson’s interpretive force, reflective of the initial premise.
