Ewa was a catholic Polish woman who arrived with her sister Magda, as an immigrant to New York in 1921. The hazards of life and Bruno, the man who saved her from being deported, made her to become a prostitute. When Ewa looked for her expatriate relatives already living in New York, realized that they wanted to get rid of it because they didn’t want to have to do with her profession. Soon, she met Emil Bruno’s cousin, with whom started a romantic story. Her life was complicated by these relationships and the urge to recover her sister, who remained in quarantine for a disease.
