When Tsukuru Tazakiera was a teenager, he sat for hours at stations to watch the trains go. Now, with 36, is an engineer who designs and builds railway stations, leading a quiet life, perhaps too lonely. When he meets Sara, a woman he is attracted, begins to consider issues finally settled thought. Among others, a traumatic episode of his youth when he went to college, a group of friends from adolescence ended abruptly the relationship with him, without any explanation. The experience was so painful that Tsukuru even toyed with the idea of suicide. Now, 16 years later, perhaps he could achieve to find out what exactly happened. Echoes of the past and present, pianists able to predict death and see the color of people, six-fingered hands, disturbing dreams, fragile girls and deaths raise questions, compose the landscape, scheduled by the notes of the pilgrimage years of Liszt, which will be traveled by  Tsukuru in search of a long time hidden feelings. Decidedly, it’s time to get on a train.
