The Island of Dr. Mastrovito (2010), represents a colony of bats clinging to the ceiling of a gallery, while hundreds of butterflies stuck to the wallsobserving other animals, insects and flowers coexisting on the floor. Thus, Andrea Mostrovito creates a stunning installation, full of flora and cropped wildlife, from over 1,000 reused text-books. This colorful artwork uses collage and trompe-l’oeil, partly inspired by the science fiction novel by H.G. Wells  The Island of Dr. Moreau, which was part of the group exhibition The Sixth Borough, a series of site-specific art installations curated for the 2010 summer art festival on Governors Island.
