Born on July 9, 1937, in England, the artist David Hockney studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Painter, illustrator and stage designer, Hockney is one of the greatests of English Pop Art. He currently resides in the U.S., where he teaches in some of the most prestigious universities. Additionally, he has designed stages for many operas, such as Tristan and Isolde and The Magic Flute, among others. He has also done covers for Vogue magazine. In 2001 he published the controversial book called Secret Knowledge, which posits that great classical painters used optical systems to transfer images to canvas. In early June, one of his landscapes of his native Yorkshire, reached an estimated value of three million pounds at Sotheby’s. Currently, Christie’s has a drawing titled Pico Blvd., valued at $ 30,000.
