Calexico is the name of a town in California, USA, a few miles north of Baja California, in Mexico. It is also the name of one of the most purposeful groups of fusion music in recent years. Interestingly, Calexico founding members Joey Burns (vocals and guitar) and John Convertino (drums) founded a first band Tuxon, Arizona, but finally decided to take the euphonious name of the small town that borders Mexico. Calexico blends in an eclectic sound the chords of the vast Mexican musical tradition and musical roots in the southern USA. The result is a folk harmony virtuously fusing Mexican and American, the notes of a melancholy accordion and an acoustic guitar requintos marked by a battery that unifies the melody.
