The titan arum, or Bunga Bangkai is scientifically classified within Amorphophallus titanum plant. It was discovered in 1878, in the Sumatra jungle, by the Italian botanist Odoardo Beccari. This lovely plant produces a spadix inflorescence, sometimes called “the largest flower in the world”. The titan arum originates from the rainforests of Sumatra and Indonesia. The flower color is purple at times. Also gives off a peculiar smell, not nice, for this reason there are times when it is called corpse flower”. However, this scent has a rationale, attracts pollinators to exchange pollen for the flower to reproduce. The first plant cultivated occurred in Kew, UK in 1889. There are flowers which have been up to 2.74 meters.
