Aqua is a skyscraper located in Lakeshore East, Chicago. It is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city and was designed by the architectural firm Studio Gang Architects by Jeanne Gang. This project is the first awarded to a U.S. firm headed by a woman. This huge 82-storey building has a height of 250 meters. Its facade with balconies protruding simulates ocean waves, which explains the name of the building. These balconies have a panoramic view of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. The result is a building composed of irregular slabs of concrete that give the facade an undulating shape, almost sculptural. Extensions of these terraces serve as sunscreens, allowing savings of electric lighting. The balconies are areas without special reflective glass coating, which reduces the need for air conditioning. On the roof of this huge skyscrapers is a huge green area with athletics track and an outdoor pool. One of the features of the Aqua is that it is a building that combines offices, apartments and a hotel-Radisson Blu Hotel. This skyscraper won the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2009.
